Pioneer 1 Mission: NASA's First Attempt to Orbit the Moon

The Pioneer 1 mission, launched on October 11, 1958, was NASA's first attempt to orbit the Moon. Although it failed to reach the Moon, the spacecraft entered a heliocentric orbit.
